Pen Pal

Our amazing 3rd grade EL students embarked on a remarkable journey this year, and we couldn't be more proud of their accomplishments! In December, we introduced a special pen pal system for our students to enhance their letter-writing skills and foster meaningful connections with their peers. A big round of applause goes to Morgan Craig and Corrine Cicale, who collaborated to create this incredible experience for our students.

The students absolutely loved the pen pal program, so we decided to take it a step further. As the school year drew to a close, we organized a memorable get-together for them to finally meet their pen pals in person! South students eagerly traveled over to North, where an afternoon of excitement awaited them.

The event was filled with laughter, joy, and the building of lasting friendships. Ice breakers such as "Would You Rather" sparked lively conversations, while the heartwarming story "Dear Dragon: A Pen Pal Tale" by Josh Funk united their shared experiences. They even enjoyed a delightful lunch together and bonded over recess activities.

This gathering proved to be an excellent opportunity for our students to practice their speaking and listening skills, encouraging them to grow and communicate effectively. Moreover, the relationships they formed will carry forward into their future endeavors, serving as a foundation for their reunion in junior high.

To commemorate this momentous occasion, each student received a map displaying the route between North and South. They had an absolute blast signing their names on it, symbolizing the connections they made and the memories they shared. We want to give a huge shoutout to our extraordinary EL teachers at North and South for going above and beyond to create this enriching experience for our students. Your dedication and creativity have truly made a difference in their lives!

What an incredible way to connect and learn! We are so proud of our 3rd grade EL students for their growth, their friendship, and their unwavering enthusiasm. Keep shining, everyone!
